Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta 13-16 April 2017

Over the Easter weekend, Maritime Greenwich and Royal Woolwich hosted the start of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta. Visitors were able to get on board the nearly 30 Tall Ships that visited, and there were be plenty of street shows and stage performances to keep everyone entertained entertained.

The first race leg of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta started in Royal Greenwich over the Easter weekend.

Following the success of the 2014 Tall Ships Regatta, which attracted 1.1 million visitors, the Royal Borough of Greenwich was proud to welcome back a fleet of Tall Ships to the River Thames. A highlight on the events calendar, the 2017 Regatta turned out to be another major event for London. The Borough’s experience of hosting other large scale events including Sail Royal Greenwich, London 2012 and the London Marathon combined with its rich naval history has made Royal Greenwich, London’s home for Tall Ship events. Maritime Greenwich has had associations with the sea and navigation since the earliest of times and is now a World Heritage Site where you can visit world-class maritime attractions that include the Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory and National Maritime Museum.  Royal Greenwich has the longest riverfront setting of all the London boroughs and the four days of port festivities took place along this riverfront and in the bustling town centres of Royal Woolwich and Royal Greenwich, with an exciting programme of entertainment, music and fireworks. In the run up to the event Royal Greenwich worked with schools and community groups to inspire young people to become trainees and recruited sponsorship to fund places onboard the ships for young and disadvantaged people.
